New EU rules to stop plastic pellet losses (Regulation 2025/2365)

Plastic pellets are one of the largest sources of unintentional microplastic pollution. The EU's new Regulation (EU) 2025/2365 sets out to bring those losses close to zero.

It applies to economic operators handling five tonnes or more of plastic pellets per year — manufacturers, recyclers, converters and logistics operators alike. They must put in place risk-management plans covering handling, packaging, equipment and staff training.

First obligations already apply from 16 December 2025, with the full regime in force by 17 December 2027 and administrative fines of up to 3% of turnover for breaches.
